Local Leaders Exchange Punches

In this afternoon's Daily Record, a story about a physical fight between the chair of the local Republican party and the husband of a former Democratic county official who is no longer involved in partisan politics. The D was angry because of things the R had said about his wife on the R's talk radio program on KXLE.

I happened to listen to the part of the radio program that started the whole fracas, and compared to the other things one hears on AM talk radio, it wasn't particularly out of line. When someone says such things about a politician who lives in another state, it might be considered entertainment.

But when such things are said about a member of the local community, it is definitely out of line. We live in a community, and communities have mores -- unspoken rules about what is and isn't OK. Recent party politics have degraded our community values in a very important and unfortunate way. That's one of many reasons I'm running as an Independent.

Both people, as a friend of mine says, should accept 75% of the blame for the fight itself, but I'm afraid I think the radio host is who is responsible for damaging our community values.

  1. Linda Huber was out of line. To think that she was a county commissioner. She knows better than to behave in this manner. Fred Huber should not play the cancer card, poor taste.

  2. If one were to listen to the show, easily available on David Boze's website, they would hear numerous lies from Mr. Huber. His actions are actually quite laughable. We can only hope the behavior of this deranged individual does not adversely affect Mr. Manweller in his career.

  3. The comments above show why we need an independent commissioner. They are biased and one sided. I would imagine that a reasonable person agrees that both parties are at fault here. But, one would think that the Chair of the local Republican party and a professor at CWU should be held to higher standards than either of the Hubers. O'Brien is just part of the good ole boy club representing only that small group and part of the problem here. Its long past time to break up that club and electing Verhey will do just that. I encourage all of you who are tired of our current political mess to vote for Verhey.

  4. So I take it that Verhey doesn't have a problem with the way that Mrs. Huber acted towards Mr. Rossi in the parade even though she has held public office before? If Verhey doesn't like members of our community being talked about badly then I will have to assume that he doesn't agree with the bashing of community member Mr. Manweller either, right?

  5. LOOMIS: So, I move closer to the front because when I realized that this is Huber, I could see that tensions are escalating and I was worried that a husband coming to defend his honor could be very threatening. So, I wanted to warn Matt. At that point, Mr. Huber rips off and it's--it's a very, very ripping off of his um seat belt. Throws open the door and lunges towards Matt Manweller. Matt Manweller steps back...."

So, what would any of us do if a 200lbs man "threw open the door and lunges" towards us? We would defend ourselves....just as Manweller did.

Let's try to get facts and not just spread rumors!!

  6. The post above is from the actual eyewitness account....in the police report.

  7. A: Fred Huber is 5'7" and doesn't weigh anything close to 200 lbs, nice try though.
B: According to Dino Rossi and fellow parade marchers in his campaign (see today's and yesterday's Daily Record articles) there was no incident at the parade. Therefore, the entire story was just that - a story - completely fabricated.
C: You cant call a women fat and crazy! Manweller showed the poor taste on his show. Freedom of speach is great to hide behind until it becomes defimation of character.
D: Getting physical isn't the answer, true, but neither is flat out lying!

  8. Again, from the actual police report:

    Huber, Fredrick T.
    DOB: 12/21/54
    Weight: 195

So, ya, we were off by 5 lbs which is VERY close to 200 lbs. So it was a nice try.

  9. Oh, so since the police officer wrote it down, it MUST be correct...

This information was copied from his driver's license, which was issued a couple years before the man was diagnosed with cancer and less than two months ago, had surgery for the removal of tumors from his abdomen.

So again, nowhere near 200 lbs...

Aside from that topic, anybody else have anything to say about Manweller's lies?!?
Dino Rossi's campaign manager saying there was no incident at the parade and an eyewitness account of the parade events completely negating Manweller's story?

  10. There was no "event" at the Rodeo Parade to cause the type of comments and disagreement leading to Manweller's diatribe on the radio. It's all a fabrication to create a political controversy. Manweller's persona, his "schtick", is to always portray himself as "the victim" and "the lone voice". Look at his book "Heretic". Constantly trying to create the scenario that he's on the verge of martyrdom to "further the cause". He's the county bully who goes away crying when someone stands up to him. Some people really get sucked-in by his phoney-baloney nonsense. And no, he did not get lunged at and threw punches in self-defense. It's all part of his fiction and trying to portray the events as "controversial". He knew full well he was going to throw punches. Start going throughout town and talk with those who he has had disagreements with. A common thread is Manweller's "do you want to go out in the parking lot and settle this?" line. Manweller is Kittitas County's Tartuffe: feigning piety in order to further himself and his political ambitions. In reply to his wife's letter, here's a joke that applies to their "burden" of being "political leaders"...

Patient: Doctor, I just don't understand why my head hurts and bleeds so much after I keep hitting it with this hammer all day.

It's amazing that an educated and adult man cannot understand that he needs to think before he opens his mouth in public. He's not entertaining, clever, accurate or productive. Manweller's greatest political enemy greets him every morning in the mirror when he gets up.

  11. Note to Manweller...

Son, there are three things that you need to do.

First, you need to get a better group of friends and legal counsel. They're not doing you any favors at all.

Second, you've got to break yourself of this habit of making things up and then believing them.

Third, you've got to man-up and admit you crossed a line that you shouldn't have crossed. You need to do it, not your wife.
