About Obie (updated 7/8/10)

It is surprisingly hard to find independent information about Obie O'Brien, the other candidate in this race. Meanwhile, there are hundreds of things on the Internet about me. Not all voters will agree with everything either of us has done or said, but it only seems fair that voters have easier access to independent information about both of us.

On this page (which I will update regularly, so check back) you'll find mostly links, occasionally with a little polite comment from me, to past news items or Internet information about Obie O'Brien. I realize that I have a special responsibility to keep things factual and not negative, and I will be doing that. Please let me know if you feel anything here is unfair or untrue. Mr. O'Brien is chair of the board of directors of HopeSource, a local social services agency.

One of HopeSource's projects is a transitional housing facility across the street from City Hall in Cle Elum. Apparently the agency's board of directors failed to check the allowed uses of the building before signing a long-term lease and doing significant work on the facility. Mr. O'Brien on preservation of Ellensburg's historic train station: "I'm just wondering if it wouldn't be better just to bulldoze it." (Daily Record, February 8, 2005). According to his website, he later made the motion for the city to buy the train station for Historic Ellensburg.
